Abstract
14,295. Burguy, J. M. Aug. 9. Locks, key; latches.-The lock is illustrated as applied to a pair of folding doors. The case is thin, and of ornamental appearance. The latch bolt a is operated by the follower e and by the spring f, which is of the special shape shown in Fig. 2. The follower e is operated by handles on a spindle passed through the aperture d, or the handles may be dispensed with and a projection a' formed on the key, Fig. 3, to fit this aperture. The lock bolt m is controlled by a lever r, and is operated from outside by a key and from inside by a stud t. The bolt m may be shot behind the bolt a, to lock it, or into a notch l to hold it in the retracted position, in which case the doors might be used as swing doors. The bolt m may also be placed by the stud t in an intermediate position, in which case it locks the bolt a and cannot be retracted by the key. It is retained in the intermediate position by teeth x on a flange on the lever engaging corresponding teeth on the edge of the bolt, under the influence of the spring y. Fig. 7 shows a modification, in which the bolt r<1> is operated by a key from either side. If the bolt is placed in the intermediate position, the key, which is still in the keyhole, cannot be displaced from the opposite side, as the spring y, which is attached to the bolt and engages in the notch b<1> in the lever, resists any attempt to work it round.
