Abstract

12,786. Borchardt, H. July 16. Lighting gas.-Relates to improvements connected with the method of ignition described in Specification No. 7015, A.D, 1900. A platinum wire arranged in proximity to the pilot jet is initially heated by the passage of a weak electric current, and is subsequently raised to the igniting- temperature by the gas impinging thereon, the gas supply to the main burner being then turned on and ignited from the pilot flame. Upon pressing the knob k, the upward movement of the rod e in the tube e<1> first causes a rod d, pivoted at d' and passing through holes in the sleeve k<2>, a pin h therein, and the lower end b<1> of tl e valve b, to lift the valve and cut off the gas supply to the main burner, while the further movement of the knob k causes the upper end of the rod e to make contact with a sleeve m on the insulated pilot jet n and complete the electrical circuit. As soon as the knob k is released, the spring f, compressed between the knob k and the pin h, restores the parts to their normal position, thus opening the valve b. The gas which then issues from the main burner is ignited from the pilot jet. The platinum wire i is attached to the pilot jet n, and the electric conductor t with its insulator u is held in position by a friction grip formed by bending one of the sleeves n<4> out of alignment with the other sleeves n'. In table lamps, the cell for supplying the electric current is mounted in the lamp pedestal.
