Abstract

8230. Johnson, J. Y., [Hasslacher, F.]. May 3. Compound processes.-In mercerizing fabrics, the material is passed through the mercerizing-vat b, Fig. 1, and then through the ordinary feed and squeezing rollers c, after which it passes through corrugated rollers A<1>, A<2>, shown in side view and to a larger scale in Fig. 1<A>, by which the fabric is kept stretched and prevented from shrinking. It thence passes under a spray, as shown in Fig. 1, and between the squeezing-rollers d, by which the excess of lye is removed from it. When it is desired that the stretching-devices should operate for a longer time, large corrugated drums B<1>, B<2>, Fig. 2, are used, against which corrugated rollers A' operate. The stretching-rollers may also be arranged in troughs containing the mercerizing- solution or warm water for washing.
