Abstract

5699. Overbaugh, C. B., and Sandford, P. March 27. Stoppers; refilling, preventing.-The bottle neck is fitted with a casing, forming seats 22, 28 for the heavy ball valve 18 and the float valve 20. The casing is made in three parts 14, 15, 16, which are secured together, and fixed in the neck by cement in the grooves 12. The neck is contracted at the underside 36 of the groove 12, so as to gather the cement from the part 14 into the groove, as the casing is being inserted. The part 15 is of cap shape, and forms an inwardly-projecting shoulder 26, to serve as a stop for the ball 19, which aids in retaining the valve 18 on its seat. When the bottle is inverted, the ball 19 enters the recess in the cap 15, and permits the valve 18 to open for the outward passage of the contents. Tue liquid is discharged between the ribs 23, which guide the valve 18, and the ribs 24 of the cap 15, then through the valve 20, between the guide-ribs 29, and through the passages 31, 30, which are adapted to prevent the insertion of an instrument for tampering with the valves. The upper end of the part 16 is closed by a cap 17, which is provided with a stop 34 for the valve 20. The valves permit the contents to be poured out, but prevent refilling.
