Abstract

20,732. Cruyt, W. J. Oct. 16. Steam generation by direct contact of combustion products.-Relates to apparatus for generating amixture of combustion products and steam for use in motors. A mixture of combustible gas and air is drawn through the mixing-device e into the chamber c by the up-stroke of the piston k of a compressing-pump, and is compressed on its down-stroke, at the end of which it is ignited by an igniter f. The force of the explosion is sufficient to open a valve h, and the gases therefore enter the reservoir b. At the same time water is forced by a pump p through the hollow stem i of the valve h, and through perforations in its head amongst the issuing gases, and is converted into steam ; vaporization is assisted by the heated perforated dishes y. The compressor is driven by a suitable motor, and the pump p draws its water from a tank r supplying the cylinder jacket s.
