Abstract

25,798. Waterhouse, J. H. Nov. 9. Atmospheric gas burners; oil supply fittings; burners, regulating and controlling; vaporizing-apparatus.-Compressed air for supplying the heating- burners of a steam-generator with liquid fuel is stored in a reservoir, its degree of compression varying with the speed of running of the engine. The passage of fuel to the burner is governed by a valve operated by the steam pressure in the generator. An air-pump A connected to the steam-engine B compresses air into a reservoir C, from which the compressed air is taken to work the feed-pump G and to force liquid fuel from the storage tank D through the tube K to the burners M. The passage of fuel through the tube K is governed by a valve 0, Fig. 7, operated by a diaphragm P, upon which the steam pressure in the generator presses against the resistance of a spring O<1>. The burner consists of a mixing-chamber J carrying lateral tubes J<1> which are formed with a number of fine slits upon their upper sides. Exhaust air from the motor working the feed-pump is supplied to the burner through a tube M, Fig. 5. The tube is passed along the top of the chamber J and is provided with a number of nipples m.
