The stopper a is formed with a central passage b, and with a recess c to receive the elastic valve plate d, the valve being held in position by the resilient flaps e on the stopper. During the sterilizing process &c., the gases &c. escape through passage b. When the process is completed, the valve is pressed on its seat by the external atmospheric pressure, to close the passage. The top of the stopper and the flaps e may be integral with the body of the stopper, or they may be made separate and attached to it.
