The stopper has a packing-ring e of rubber, cork, &c., and, when inserted, is rotated until the projections d engage under the projections a. The closure is applicable to vessels for preserving or sterilizing liquids, fruit, &c., the washer e serving as a valve to allow the vapours to pass out through a channel in the stopper, while, when seated by the external pressure, it prevents the admission of air.
