Abstract
15,735. White, J. S., White, J. L., and Forster, A. Aug. 1. Steam - generator furnaces. - Relates to water-tube boilers. The steam and water drums, and their connecting water tubes, are so arranged in relation to one or more furnaces that gases from one of two contiguous furnaces, or a portion of the gases from one furnace, are caused to pass through two groups of water tubes, while the gases from the other furnace, or the remainder of the gases from one furnace, pass through one group only. This arrangement promotes the combustion of smoke. Fig. 2 shows a double boiler with four furnaces. The gases from the outer furnaces h pass through two groups of tubes p, p*, while those from the inner furnaces h* pass through one only. Outer walls of tubes o, o are provided as shown. The middle water drum e may be replaced by two. The water tubes are arranged as described in Specification No. 22,222, A.D. 1897. The supports for the water drums are hollow for the supply of heated air to the furnace. Half of the boiler shown in Fig. 2 may form a separate boiler. Fig. 4 shows a modified arrangement, in which the gases from one furnace, or from each of several furnaces, are divided, a portion passing through the opening 2 and through one group of tubes, while the remainder leave the furnace at the end and pass through two groups of tubes.
