Abstract
18,139. Thompson, W. P., [Stevens, J. A.]. Aug. 23. Steam-generator furnaces.-Relates to water-tube boilers in which baffle walls are arranged parallel to the tubes. Fig. 1 shows a transverse section and Fig. 2 a longitudinal section of one arrangement of boiler, the two halves of which are symmetrical. Fig. 4 shows a modification. The space between the lateral containing-walls is divided by baffle walls 2 into a central space which contains the furnace grate, and two outer spaces which are subdivided by the baffle walls 10. Each space contains generating-tubes and connections as shown. The outermost banks of tubes and connections may, however, be omitted. The baffle walls are preferably constructed of water-circulating boxes or tubes, as shown, with back and front headers ; solid walls may, however, be used. The whole circulating and generating system is enclosed by a layer of bricks or tiles 19 covered with plastic material and resting on the tubes 9, and by air casings at the back and front. A perforated baffle of tiles partly covers the top row of tubes in the central space as shown at 4<1>, Fig. 2. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the drum 16<1> forms the furnace bridge. Air is supplied to the furnace through channels 27 in the ashpit walls. A sliding damper 24 is fitted in the uptake Blowers 28 are fitted to prevent the deposition of soot.
