18,138. Thompson, W. P., [Stevens, J. A.]. Aug. 23. Steam - generator furnaces.-Relates to water-tube boilers in which baffle walls are arranged parallel to the tubes. Fig. 1 shows a half transverse section, and Fig. 2 a longitudinal section, the two halves of the boiler being symmetrical. The space between the lateral containing-walls is divided by baffle walls 2 into a central space which contains the furnace grate and two outer spaces, the latter being subdivided by the baffle walls 3. Each space contains generating-tubes and their connections as shown. The outermost sets of tubes &c. may, however, be suppressed. The baffle walls may be solid, or in the form of water chambers. The precipitation drum 20 may form the firebridge. The space between the steam drums is filled in as shown, and perforated baffle tiles 25 rest on, or are supported above or below, the top row of tubes in the central chamber. Air is supplied to the furnace through channels 27 in the ashpit walls. To prevent the deposition of soot, blowers 24 are fitted in the filling-pieces between the steam drums.
