12,303. Issels, F. G. M. June 13. Acetylene.- The generator is formed of two concentric cylinders a, b. The dome or bell g dips into the annular space, which is charged with liquid by means of a lip c and opening a<1>. The bell has a closed chamber or displacer k depending therefrom, and its upper movement is limited by hinged catches h. The carbide is contained in a removable receptacle e, which rests upon a partition d, fixed in the inner cylinder at preferably one-third the height of the outer cylinder. Water is maintained in the lower space up to the level of the overflow q, and is charged on to the carbide through a flexible tube p, and a tube l passing through the displacer. The tube l is provided with a valve m for inlet or outlet of air. In use, a controlling-valve may be placed upon the pipe n or p, and be governed by the rising and falling of the gas holder. The generated acetylene passes downwards by the tube f to the lower space, and from thence by the tube s to the gas holder. Should an undue pressure result, gas can escape from the receptacle e by way of the liquid seal.
