Incandescent gas lamps.-The effective surface of the mantle is increased by using a rectangular piece of the impregnated material folded in the manner shown in Figs. 4, 5, 6, and 7, and the transmission of vibrations to the mantle is minimized by the use of a supporting-loop c of asbestos or other soft incombustible material, which is passed through the four thicknesses, near the top. The open edges may be caught together by a similar loop d, the part of the mantle below the loop then assuming about the form indicated in Fig. 3. A series of such mantles are suspended by the loops c upon the radial arms of the mantle support, care being taken that the mantles are hung with their open sides toward the burner holes f.
