Abstract
2598. Frew-West, J. Feb. 6. Chairs; seats; cushions.-Relates to back-rests which can be hung on to the top rails of the backs of chairs or seats. A frame consisting of side bars A, Fig. 2, connected by cross-pieces B, B', is hung on to the chair back. Riveted to the bars A. are springs C connected by a bowed cross-piece D. Wire work or webbing is secured to the springs C, directly, or by means of spiral springs. Figs. 3, 4, and 5 show a modification, in which two pairs of springs C' connected by bars B<2>, B<3> are suspended from the chair &c. back by hooks A'. The crossbar G, corresponding to the bar D, is connected by right and left handed screws I, J and a wing nut K to a cross-piece. By means of the nut the tension of the spring surface can be varied. Fig. 8 shows a simpler modification, and Fig. 7 one in which the suspending-hook can be adjusted in length. The double springs C<1>, Figs. 5 and 7, can rock on the supports.
