Abstract
1028. Shaw, S. Jan. 16. Locks, key.-The tumblers h are loosely pivoted on a pin g between stationary plates f. Recesses h<1> and h<2> of the tumblers engage ribs k<1> and k<2> of the yoke k secured to the bolt e. The recesses h<4> of the tumblers h engage with the rib k<2> to hold the bolt e in the unlocked position. Notches f<3> on the plates f allow motion of the yoke k. Curved recesses h<5> on the tumblers correspond with the teeth l<1> of the key l. Fig. 1 shows the bolt e in a locked position. To unlock the bolt, the key l is inserted in the slit m<3>, and the key and the tumbler cylinder m turned in the direction of the arrow. This causes the tumblers h to be freed from the rib k<2> and the lever d turning on the pin d<1> moves the bolt e by reason of the curved slot d<3> and pin e<1>, a pin m<1> on the cylinder m engaging with the forked end d<2> of the lever d. The back l<3> of the key l is inserted in one or other of two recesses, to unlock or lock respectively.
