Abstract
18,630. Wormald Patent Locks Co., and Wormald, A. H. Sept. 18. Locks, key.-Lock mechanism and keys therefor are constructed so as to prevent picking of the lock. A key of the type described in Specification No. 23,418, A.D. 1892, has a pivoted wing com- bined with a fixed wing or wings, or a series of wings forming a wheel. The key consists of a housing a, Fig. 2, within which slides a sleeve b pressed outwards by a spring b' and provided with a fixed wing or bitt c. A wing d is pivoted to a spindle e located inside the sleeve and fixed to the housing. Normally, the wing d lies within the sleeve, but, when the key is pushed home in the lock, the sleeve is pressed in and the wing is protruded. Fig. 6 shows a padlock arranged to be operated by the key. The bolt g, which is shot by means of a spring h, is maintained in the locked position by a spring-controlled locking- piece i. Upon turning the key, the wing c dis- engages the piece i, and the wing d then serves to retract the bolt. As only a single slot is provided in the keyhole for the passage of the key, and as two bitts are necessary to retract the bolt, the lock cannot be picked. The invention may be applied to lever and tumbler, or wheel locks, locking-pieces i being arranged in connection therewith.
