24,198. Sherratt, W. Nov. 16. Stuffing-boxes.-Relates to stuffing-boxes from which the packing may be easily withdrawn and which provide for the lubrication of the packing while in position. Fig. 1 shows the stuffing-box with metallic and fibrous packing-rings in section. The sides of the stuffing-box are formed with circular channels G, into which fit loosely the studs I attached to a loose lifting-plate H. Subsidiary glands J secured to the main gland surround the upright studs, and form a channel for the passage of the lubricating-grease from the lubricator to the packing. The metallic packing- rings C' are preferably made in halves, and are provided with grease passages. When the packing has to be removed, the main gland with its subsidiary glands is withdrawn, and the studs I supplied with nuts. By turning the nuts or by prising them up, the studs together with the plate H and the packing are withdrawn.
