21,860. Vanhauten, P., Plumen, L., and Noppeney, M. Oct. 17. Flooring-blocks.-Hollow or perforated archshaped blocks B, of concrete, gypsum, or the like, are grooved to rest on bars e of wood joists A, or on the lower flanges of iron joists or girders. A recess i is made in one end of each block to receive a tongue or projection of the adjacent block, and the side edges may be cut away at y to enable the blocks to be introduced directly from below. The spaces between the joists are filled in with cement or binding-material, which enters the recesses y, and keys the blocks between the joists. Longitudinal drainage grooves k are made in the blocks to prevent any water which may penetrate through the floor from reaching the lower surface of the ceiling. Flat iron openwork bars h are inserted in grooves in the blocks below the iron joists, to form a hold for the ceiling plaster. The hollow spaces of the blocks reduce the transmission of sound.
