19,618. Haglund, J. W. Sept. 15. Locks, key.-The bolt a and the locking-mechanism are enclosed in a chamber formed by guiding-plates n, m. The bolt tail is thickened at a<1>, and a hole is formed in it to receive a spiral spring b on a guide pin b<1>. Stumps d on each side engage tumblers c pivoted to a pin e passing through a slot in the bolt tail. The key pin l is situated below the plate m, which is cut away at m<o>, Fig. 4, to form wards for the key-bits. The central bit v of the key, Fig. 9, operates the bolt by acting against the vertical face, of the slot k, Fig. 5, while the bits w lift the tumblers. The ward plate at m<2> is made curved or inclined, as shown in Fig. 7, so that the different parts of the bit do not enter the wards simultaneously, and a complete wax impression cannot be taken. The bolt is formed with a projection a<2>, Fig. 5, which limits its outward motion. The tumblers can be lifted from one side of the door &c. by depressing a knob h and the bolt withdrawn bv means of another knob. The lock may be applied to doors, gates, shutters, chests, drawers, safes, &c.
