Abstract

19,335. Vonhausen, A. E. F. Sept. 10. Driving - mechanism, hand. Reference is made to Specifications Nos. 9229 and 10,566, A.D. 1897. The present invention consists of disengaging- apparatus for the band-driving mechanism of hand and foot driven cycles, and is particularly applicable to rear-driving cycles. The axle b, Figs. 7 and 8, carrying the cranks o actuated by the hand gear, has mounted loosely upon it a chain-wheel e geared with the crank axle. The chain-wheel boss e<1> extends inwards, and is provided with a half clutch d, a similar half clutch f being mounted on a feather &c. on the axle b so as to turn therewith. The piece f is normally forced against the piece d by a spring g, but is pressed back out of gear when a rod l is depressed by an inclined cam f<1> acting thereon. The rod then enters a recess in the axle b and locks it, and hence the hand gear. The rod l is actuated by a spring lever p, Fig. 1, pivoted on the frame and provided with holes z to receive a spring bolt to lock it in position to allow the clutches to engage.
