Abstract

15,118. Kõs, R. July 9. Miners' and like safety lamps; globe holders. - Electric incandescent lamps for use in explosive atmospheres, by miners or others, are mounted so that pressure on globes enclosing them disconnects them electrically. The lamp q is supported in a globe x and in front of a reflector n by three hooked wires c<1>, p. The wire p is carried by the reflector, which is screwed on a ring b fixed on a backplate a. The globe x is carried by rings s, i, r, loose on the ring b, so that they can be moved backward a small distance, against the pressure of four wire springs, which are carried by the ring b and bear against parts of the ring i. A cross-bar k on the ring i extends through slots in the ring b. Electric connection to the lamp is effected by a switch e, pivoted on a connecting-plate d, and pressed towards a fixed contact c<3> by a wire spring. The switch is shown as held away from the contact by the interposition of a sliding stop f, which is pressed upward by a spring. The lamp is put in circuit by pulling down the stop f, which then releases the switch e; but, if the globe is pressed backward, the cross-bar k opens the switch, allowing the stop f to be again interposed by its spring. In a modification, the sliding stop f is not accessible from outside the globe, so that it cannot be withdrawn after the switch e has once been opened ; a separate sliding switch is also provided.
