Toothed gearing. -In Fig. 1, which shows the application of the invention to bevel gearing, a series of ball teeth 6 are seated in holes, drilled from the back, on the wheel 2, and project for more than half their diameter into a groove 3 in which the teeth of the companion wheel 17 run. The balls are held up by a plate 9, which may be formed with bosses to enter the holes ; or bearing- balls may be placed between the plate and the ball teeth. In spur-wheels, as shown in Fig. 3, the ball teeth are held up and adjusted by a coned disc 20. The balls may be held so tightly as to form fixed teeth.
