166. Fraser, W. P. Jan. 4. Chain-wheels for cycles &c. A chainwheel is made of two or more toothed discs set with the teeth stepped. In Fig. 1 the wheel consists of a central disc a<1> and a pair of side discs a ; the teeth of the former gear with V pockets formed between the double links of the chain; the teeth of the side discs gear with similar projections formed on each side of the central links. The teeth may be stepped in different orders, such as three, two, one, three, and the chains are then modified to correspond.
