Chain-wheels.-The wheel shown in Fig. 1 has, say, four pairs of teeth a, b, the outer faces of each pair being flat, at right-angles to the link beds d, and in a line with those of the opposite pair. One tooth of each pair is adapted for driving in one direction, and the other for driving in the opposite direction. Some of the driving-teeth may be replaced by guiding-teeth c, as shown in Fig. 2. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, the wheel is formed with, say, four right - angled notches e adapted to receive the pins of, say, alternate links of the chain.
