Abstract

9031. Duncan, A. April 19. Toothed gearing.-Relates mainly to the construction of an intermediate gear-wheel for conveying motion from the crank axle to the driving- wheel. The gear-wheel B consists of two parallel metal plates bolted together and slotted or grooved to form channels D for balls which act as teeth. Spur-wheels A, C on the crank and rear axles project between the plates B, and are formed with specially-shaped teeth to engage the balls. The wheel B is partly filled with a disc of wood &c. to prevent noise.
