Motor road vehicles. - Consists of two-speed and reversing driving-gear, especially applicable to motor carriages driven by high-speed motors from which motion is communicated to the road wheels through countershafts. Fig. 2 shows the gear in plan, partly in section. Motion is transmitted from the motor shaft d to the tubular countershaft g through the gear, and is thence communicated to the road wheels b through balance gear g<1>, the divided shaft e, e, and suitable chain gear f. The shaft g is capable of receiving motion from either of the chain-wheels h, i according to the speed required and to the adjustment of the friction clutch j, or of being set free from both. If, when the clutches are both free, the strap is tightened on the brake drum o, the direction of motion of the shaft g is reversed through the bevel gear l, n, m.
