Abstract

20,499. British Thomson-Houston Co., [Potter, W. B.]. Sept. 7. Electric railways and tramways on a road-contact system with electromagnetic switches. Conductors; switches; collectors.-A single line of studs are placed in the roadway, alternate studs giving paths for the current to the switches and to the motors. Each stud B supplying the motors is connected to the main H through two switches G, and each stud C is connected through the magnet coils g<4> to the return. Blow-out coils may be placed at band b<1>. In a modification, the wires from the studs B can be coiled on the magnets for holding up the switch in addition to the shunt coils g<4> for picking up, or these holding-up coils g<5> may be in series between a second row of contacts and the return as shown in Fig. 4. The collector F is made in two parts with a hinged or flexible connection f.
