Abstract
23,659. Robertson, D. Nov. 10. Electric railways and tramways on a road contact system with electromagnetic switches. Conductors; switches. -Current from the main conductor A is supplied to the slider H on the vehicle through one set of road contacts H<1> and switches F, which are actuated by a current of low potential from a second conductor D through a second row of road contacts G', G<2> and slider G. These contacts G', G<3> are alternately connected to the conductor D and to the actuating-coil K on the switch. This coil K pulls down a tubular plunger I, and thereby raises the mercury J to complete the circuit between the projecting terminals Q, L connected to the supply conductor A and the road contact studs H<1> as shown in section in Fig. 3. The plunger I is protected by insulation P, and may be solid instead of tubular ; other means than the subsidiary conductor D may supply current for actuating the switches.
