Blast-furnace charges.-The slag or cinder from open-hearth or other steel-melting furnaces is mixed with purple or other iron ore, blue billy, or scale, and is afterwards utilized in blast furnaces. Lime or other fluxing-material may be added. The additions are made to the slag when in a molten condition.
