Abstract

25,950. Cockburn, C. E. Nov. 27. Drawings to Specification. Direct processes of obtaining; blast and cupola furnace charges; blast for blast furnaces and the like.- Dried peat moss briquettes are used as fuel in the conversion of iron ores or carbides into steel in a blast, cupola, or other furnace, and air, water gas, and, in some cases, carburetted hydrogen obtained from burning peat are injected into the furnace during the conversion. Steel, cast iron, or pig-iron scrap may be mixed with the ore. The water gas is not injected until the reduction of the oxides into the liquid metallic state commences
