17,960. Deighton, W. July 31. Feedwater, heating and purifying. -Relates to combined jet and surface condensers and feedwater heaters and purifiers. The cylindrical chamber a is divided into chambers b, c, d by plates f, f<1>, f<2>. Exhaust steam from the pipe l enters the chamber b, heats the vessel h, and passes through the tubes e to the chamber d. The uncondensed steam then passes through the pipe g, and mingles at j with a jet of cold water and passes condensed to the chamber c, from which it may be drawn off through the pipe o. The supply of water to the jet j is regulated by the float s, in the chamber c, connected by rods n and levers to the valve m. Sediment may be removed from the chamber c through the pipe t and cock t<1>, and grease &c. may be drawn from the chamber d through the cock v.
