Feedwater, heating and purifying.-The cold feed enters by the passage 11, and from the chamber 10 enters the space 5, which opens to a row of U-shaped steam-heated tubes 31, the latter, with similar tubes 32 and 33, being enclosed within the dome 26. From the space 6, from which the chamber 14 depends, the water ascends the row of tubes 32 and follows the course shown by the arrows. The heated and purified water escapes from the chamber 21 and outlet 22. The settling-chamber is enclosed within a steam jacket 23. Precipitates are driven out through the cock 18. Other cocks drain the depending chambers.
