Abstract
10,358. Reed, T. A. May 5. Feedwater, heating.-The water is heated before and after its passage through the feedpump in chambers shown in Figs. 2 and 1 respectively. The chambers contain coiled tubes carrying live steam. Water enters the first heater, Fig. 2, through the side passage i, and the exit orifice k is connected to the feed-pump. On leaving the pump, it enters the second heater, Fig. 1, from which it passes, down the side passage f, to the boiler. The coils b, m in the chambers are connected by a tube d, which contains a valve o. The steam first enters the coils b, and perforations are made in the coils m to allow the condensed steam to mix with the feedwater. The entrance and exit orifices of both the heaters are arranged opposite to each other, so as to facilitate connection with the feed-pipe.
