Abstract

11,140. Lake, H. H., [Mills, C.]. May 4. Carding-engines.-Relates to machines for attaching card clothing to flats, the edges of the card fillet having previously had fastening-clips secured to them. The clips consist of angular metal strips united by prongs to the edges of the fillet. The fillet with its attached clips is placed in a channel a of a bed A, the sides of the channel being stepped to support the clips. The iron flat B' is placed between the clips and pressed downwards upon the fillet by an adjustable presser-bar B which is fitted at the lower end with bow springs C and raised and lowered by an eccentric b operated by a handle. The pressing downwards of the flat stretches the fillet transversely. The presser may be swung from its vertical position when it is required to replace a flat &c., and held in an inclined position by catches or rods b<6>, b<7>. On each side of the flat are a number of pressing or folding fingers H, arranged side by side and moved forwards simultaneously by eccentrics on the shafts F, which are connected by gearing and operated by a handle. The folders serve to bend the free edges of the clips over the back of the flat. Each finger or folder H is held in the downwardly-inclined position shown by weighted levers M, which turn about the points m<5> and have suspending-links m extending through apertures in the folders.
