Abstract

4878. Redon, C. F. de. Feb. 23. Electric railways and tramways on a conduit system with insulated contacts and a magnetic circuit-closer. Conductors; switches; collectors. - Insulated roller contacts B<3>, B<4>, B<5>, of which B<5> acts as a return, are placed in a conduit A and are rubbed by a collector consisting of rods &c. A<2> with curved ends. The switching-appliances are contained in closed non-magnetic boxes B, and consist of bell cranks B<2> carrying a permanent or electromagnet B<1> and two contact-plates b<2> adapted to bridge the contacts 1, 2, 3 and 4, 5, 6 respectively. The magnet placed opposite the thin wall b of the box is attracted by the collector so as to close the contacts, and the breaking is retarded by a bellows C' and leak-off valve or other adjustable retarding-device. The iollers B<3>, B<4>, B<5> are connected to the contacts 1, 2, 5 respectively, while the contacts 3 and 4 are connected to the main conductors 7 and the return conductor 8. By means of the auxiliary conductors 16, 19 and the other connections indicated, the rollers B<3>, B<5> in advance of the switch box in which the switch is thrown are put in circuit before the collector comes on to them. C is the junction box for the main conductors and leaders to two switch boxes.
