5982. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. March 21. Electric railways.-A protective device consists of magnet windings which, when a shortcircuit occurs, open the circuit of the retaining-coil of a circuitbreakers The windings C, C<1> are connected between the sections T, T' of the third rail and the ground by the track rails R. The sections T, T<1> are connected to the bus - bar a by feeders F, F<1> through circuit-breakers B, B'. The generator A is connected between the bus-bar a and earth. Each of the coils C controls a normally-closed switch in series with the conductor c and retaining-coil b of the circuit-breaker B. When a shortcircuit occurs on a section T, the current in the coils C drops, opening the switches. The circuit of the coil b is thus boken, and the circuit-breaker B opened to disconnect the rail T.
