764. McQuillan, A. Jan. 11. Diving. - Relates to dresses and apparatus. Tubular metal rings A are sewn between two or more thicknesses of the material composing the dress, for the purpose of resisting the pressure of the water at great depths. Boots B of copper or other suitable metal are secured to the legs of the dress by flanged joints R, and similar joints are provided at the upper part of the legs, the middle of the body, and the arms. The helmet and upper portion E of the body covering are made in one piece of bronze or the like, or in two parts which are brazed or connected together in any suitable manner. Air is supplied to the helmet by a fan and pipe J, and is exhausted at the breast plate by a pipe J<1> provided with a valve J'. The shaft carrying the screw blades K of the fan is mounted in bearings k<1> within a wooden casing M, and is driven by a pulley P.
