Abstract
15,832. Wiseman, R. S. July 20. For operatives in chemical works and the like.-Relates to a fireproof dress for firemen a n d others with arrangementsforsupplying fresh air and removing foul air. The system for circulating air is also suitable for white lead workers, dippers in tile works, workers in match factories, &c. To a brass collar B, w i t h springs B<1> to support it on the shoulders, a copper helmet C and a leather blouse A are attached. The bottom of the blouse is strapped airtight to the body. Fresh air is supplied to the top of the helmet by a pipe d<3>, and foul air escapes by a pipe d<4> surrounding it. Both pipes are connected to a coupling E, to the opposite end of which lengths of similar piping are connected, the internal pipe being made of fireproof material. A glass or mica window C<1> is mounted in the helmet, before the eyes, and a sponge c<2> is mounted so that it can be pulled over the glass by a cord c<@> to clean it. A fireproof overall of thick asbestos is worn over the blouse, and extends down to fireproof leggings.
