Abstract

583. Malmendier, C. Jan. 8. Bottling; corking.-Relates to combined apparatus for aerating and bottling wine and other liquids, and for corking the bottles. Fig. 1 shows an elevation, and Fig. 3 a section of the apparatus on the line y y, Fig. 1. It comprises a hollow cylinder c', which communicates with a vessel m and through a pipe b with a supply of carbonic acid. The communication between these parts and the cylinder c' can be closed by the valve a<1>. The cylindrical part c<1> is connected by a semi-cylindrical part c<o> to a cylinder c, in which works a screwed spindle d. The whole apparatus is mounted on a pivot so that it can be turned upside down. In use, a bottle containing liquid is held by a clamp (not shown), so that its mouth is in the part c', and a cork is placed in the part c<o> so as to close the upper opening of the part c'. The valve a' is then opened, and the apparatus is turned upside down so that the liquid runs into the vessel m and is shaken about so as to become aerated. The apparatus is then turned back again, and the cock is held in place by pushing up to it the slide s, which is in turn held by a hinged flap g operated by the lever h. The cork is pushed into the bottle by the plunger d.
