Abstract

188,396. Fairchild, W. L. Aug. 9, 1921. Vulcanizing tyres.-Tyre-tubes and the like are placed in moulds 14 with their valves protruding and are supported on a bracket 9 carried by a truck 7. The bracket 9 is provided with hangers 10, 11 in which is mounted a manifold 12 with branches 13 adapted to connect with the valve stems of the tubes. Connection is made, the truck 7 is run into a chamber 1, and the manifold is connected with a pipe 20 for supplying heated gas to the interior of the tubes, and a pipe 28 with three valved branches 30, 31, 32 connected respectively with exhaust, pressure, and vacuum. The door 3 is secured and steam is admitted to the chamber 1 by pipes 23, 24, and to the interior of the tubes by the pipe 20. On completion of the vulcanization, the interior pressure is relieved through the pipe 30, and the tubes are put alternately under pressure and vacuum through the pipes 31, 32, to cause them to vibrate within the moulds to facilitate removal therefrom.
