188,348. Kitchin, E. W. Feb. 27, 1922. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Hedge-cutting machines.-A hand-machine for trimming hedges &c. consists of two circular toothed cutting-discs a, b rotated oppositely by bevel-gearing g, h, k and a shaft l with a handle, the working parts being enclosed in a casing p to prevent them from being clogged by the cuttings. The underside of the casing is a flat surface d, free from projections, which may be placed upon the hedge &c. being cut. The disc b has a strengthening-boss f, and together with the bevel-wheel g is secured to the spindle e. The bevel-wheel h and the cutter a are mounted loosely on the spindle, which rotates in bearings n formed on or in the casing. One of the discs a, b may be driven directly and motion transmitted from it to the other. The parts of the discs a, b which project beyond the casing p are protected during non-use by a detachable cover. The rotating parts may be mounted on ball or roller bearings, and the shaft l may rotate in a tube. To prevent more than one pair of cutting- edges from being in operation at the same time, one of the discs a, b has one or two fewer teeth than the other.
