Fluid-pressure; hand and foot actuation.- Brakes, particularly for motor vehicles, are applied by a pump 18 driven bv a rotating shaft 13 or other part of the vehicle which normally circulates oil within the casing 12 by way of the suction opening 14 and a valve 6 operated by a. pedal 1. When it is desired to apply the brakes, the valve 6 is turned to connect the discharge pipe 15 of the pump successively with the cylinders 8, 9 the pistons of which are connected to the brakes. The cylinders may be of different diameters so that the braking action on one pair of wheels may be greater than on the other. By continuing the depression of the pedal after the cylinders have been connected to the pump, a second set of brakes may be applied to the rear wheels by the rod 3. The cylinders are provided with safety valves to limit the pressure therein.
