Abstract
187,821. Ellison, G., and Anderson, J. Oct. 5, 1921. Magnetic blow-outs.- A blow-out employs means for producing a radial or like magnetic field in an annular region containing fixed and movable contacts a, b adapted to separate in a direction parallel with the axis of the field, thereby driving the arc along the circular path f. To prevent damage to the iron casing c, the electromagnet e and its core d, heat resisting material h, is fitted and a barrier g prevents the are from describing a complete circle. In a double-break arrangement, Fig. 4, the two pairs of contacts are relatively near each other and the arc path is common to both pairs. If desired a rectangular arc path may be substituted.
