Impression surfaces.-Pulleys for driving motorcar fans &c., toothed wheels, rollers for writing- instruments, paper-making machines, and printing-machines, &c. have their acting surfaces formed of highly compressed cardboard. As shown in Fig. 1, a pulley 1 has rings 3 of such cardboard clamped by screw ended rivets 6 between plates 4, 5 gripping the pulley rims. One of the end plates may be integral with the rim.
