Abstract

187,495. Pritchard, G. T. Nov. 29, 1921. Stencils and stencilling; hand stamps; inking- apparatus.- A hand-stamp for stencilling addresses on labels, &c. is constructed of a casing 1 formed of sheet metal and containing a foraminous metal or like ink container 11 arranged to supply ink to a pad preferably formed of three layers of felt &c. arranged in stepped formation and comprising an upper layer 10<a> of larger size than an aperture 3 in the bottom 2 of the casing 1, an intermediate layer 10<b> which fits the aperture, and a smaller layer 10<c> which is arranged adjacent to the stencil. The stencil is made of fibre and is prepared in a typewriter, or bv hand, and is secured over an aperture in a cardboard frame 15 which is secured in pockets or clips 12 which extend only partly across the same and engage recessed portions in the centres of the short sides of the frame 15. The casing 1 is closed by cover 5 which engages under lips 4 on the casing, and is formed with an operating-handle 9. The cover 5 is formed with a prolongation 6 fitting in a cutaway part of the side 6<a> of the casing 1, and snap-hooks 8 on springs 7 guided by guides 7<a> hold the cover in position. The construction of the pad 10 is adapted to prevent smearing of ink, and to increase the cushioning effect of the device.
