[Class 100 (ii)] Platen machines; inking - apparatus.-A block 1, for printing in different colours is combined " with a ribbon or like element 2 comprising apertures in such conditions that the ribbon covers the characters during the whole duration of the normal printing and uncovers the latter at the moment of printing in predetermined different colours, the ribbon constituting for this purpose an inking ribbon and coming normally into contact with an inking-roller 5." The inking-roller is preferably geared to a ratchet-wheel 9 cooperating with a detent 7 and pawl 8 on a spring-actuated lever 6 which " during its shifting movement in the printing-machine is met by the inking-rollers and thus becomes depressed." The block and guides 3, 4 for the ribbon may be supported by " elastic elements." The lever 6 may be replaced by a pair of " levers " for driving alternately two mutilated pinions which drive the inking- roller 5 in the same direction. To prevent the levers from printing lines or dots on the paper, they may be coated with ink-repelling material, or they may be actuated by auxiliary levers.
