Bristles, fixing, and bridles for.-In paint or other brushes the bristle knot a is inserted in a socket or recess in the handle end b<1> which is enclosed in a ferrule d and constricted therewith to grip the knot. The ferrule may be prevented from longitudinal movement by having its lower end turned inwardly, as shown, or, in a modified construction, its upper edge may fit beneath a shc.ulder formed on the upper portion of the end b'. The brush may be provided with a bridle e secured in position by means of wires f gripped between the ferrule d and the end b<1> of the handle. In a modified construction, described with reference to a flat brush, the recess for the bristle knot is formed right across the end of the handle so that the ferrule comes into contact with the bristles at the ends of the recess.
