Crops, storing.-In cylindrical silos composed of vertical staves a which rest on a concrete or other bed c and are held together by circular bands o, the screw-threaded ends of which are secured by nuts r to vertical supports d, Fig. 1, there are provided, between the nuts and supports, springs q, Fig. 6, so that the circular bands may yield or contract as the staves swell or shrink and so maintain a good joint. Alternatively the two ends of the circular bands may be brought to a turn-buckle 26, Fig. 7, one end being connected through a spring 25. The staves are pressed against the inside of the concrete rim b, Fig. 1, by wedges m forced between arcuate members l and dowel pins n, Fig. 3, in the floor c. A shoot v with sliding doors 12, Fig. 3, arranged at various heights and with a ladder arranged up one side thereof and having a door u, Fig. 1, is provided, either on the inside or outside of the silo, and a platform h is provided near the roof, which is of bell-tent form and which may be supported internally by a king post and guy ropes. The silage may be pressed downwards by a plate inside the silo, forced down by screws working through nuts (not shown).
