Abstract

186,326. Mannheim, C. AmÚdÚe-. Sept. 22, 1921, [Convention date]. Springs, arrangement of; equalizing load on springs.-A spring suspension for a motor vehicle comprises a non-resilient member secured, at a point between its ends, to the axle and, acted upon at its ends respectively by the weight of the frame and load and by the reaction of a resilient member mounted on the frame, the arrangement being such that the moment of the resilient reaction about the axle remains constant, a very flexible resilient member or suspension spring serving to keep the frame at the normal distance from the axle. As shown in Fig. 1, the non-resilient member consists of an angle-member c, e, r, pivoted or fixed to the axle at e and pivoted to the frame l at c, the branch e, r being acted upon by an adjustable .spring d mounted in a cylinder secured to the frame. The branch e, r may be curved so as to obtain a constant moment for the spring d. The spring d may be secured to the branch e, r as shown in Fig. 3, or may be replaced by a horizontal transverse or a vertical laminated spring. The laminated spring v serves to keep the frame at its normal distance from the axle. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), comprises also a non-resilient member c, o, e, r, Fig. 1, (Cancelled), controlled by a spring a; an angle member c, e, r, Fig. 2. (Cancelled), controlled by a spring a mounted in a cylinder on the frame and having one end a<1> mounted in a groove in a member pivoted at m to the frame and connected by a link to the axle; an angle member c, e, r, Fig. 3 (Cancelled), carrying a cylinder containing a spring which bears on a cam m on the frame. Means for adjustment in accordance with the load are also described. The horizontal coiled spring may be replaced by a pair of vertical springs connected by jointed rods as shown in Fig. 6, (Cancelled). The suspensions for the front and rear axles may be interconnected by mounting the connections m, Figs. 1 and 2. (Cancelled), on a longitudinally movable rod. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
