185,978. Podmore, A., and Tuck, A. J. M. Oct. 15, 1921. Cigarette-making machines.-Relates to rotary circular-knife cutting-machanism for continuousrod cigarette-making machines. A sliding bed 34 supporting the cigarette rod 64 is mounted on guide-rods 61 and reciprocated by a link 32, a crank-pin 31 adjustable in a slot 31a, and toothed gearing operated from the main shaft. The circular knives 35 are carried by pinions 57 gearing with rack bars 58 mounted on the bed 34 and are reciprocated and rotated along the rack bars by links 53, a crosshead 49, link 47, sliding block 42, link 40, crank-pin 39 and toothed gearing of the kind described in Specification 179,489, [Class 80 (i), Gearing, Belt &c.]. The gearing is adjustable for cutting cigarettes of different lengths by changing a wheel 11, gearing with a wheel 9 carried by a slotted crank arm 15, for one of a different diameter. The sliding bed 34 makes two cylindrical movements parallel to the cigarette rod while the knives make one cyclical movement. The knives cut off cigarettes both in the forward and return movements.
